Around Town Spokane is the center of the Inland Northwest where you can enjoy diverse cuisines at our outstanding restaurants, from Moroccan to Thai to classic American. We’re proud of our more than 80 arts organizations. They include several museums and galleries, a professional symphony orchestra and one of the country’s only big band jazz orchestras. We’re also a regular stop for touring Broadway shows and major concert tours. Our premier performing arts organization is the Spokane Symphony. Others inlcude the Spokane Jazz Society, the Uptown Opera, the Cathedral and the Arts Association, the Spokane Chamber Music Association, and the Spokane Youth Symphony. The Spokane Interplayers Ensemble is our resident professional theater, and the Spokane Civic Theatre offers year-round entertainment in its $2 million home. Broadway is represented by the Best of Broadway road show series, which plays the Opera House. The Spokane metropolitan area is home to 11 dance groups and associations representing forms ranging from ballet to folk and modern. The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture is the centerpiece of our visual arts community. In addition to a world-class collection of Native American artifacts, the museum showcases the region’s rich history, and its gallery hosts revolving exhibits featuring the work of artists of reginoal, national and international reputation. Gonzaga University is home to the Jundt Art Center and Museum which provides space for traveling exhibits and the school’s growing art collection. |
